It’s been a while since I last posted here and summer is in full swing.
I just received an email from Nobel Samurai about Google’s hidden agenda you might of seen it as well.
I just had to post my thoughts about this video and you might feel the same way about my observations.
The video starts off with how advertising and brand names are dominating the real estate of the search results. No surprise there we all have been noticing this gradual change in the last year.
I thought this could of been taken a little further. If you also look at the organic search rankings you will also see in many cases authority sites like Amazon, eBay, etc… are taking most of the top 5 places for money making keywords as well.
As he is talking and making the observations with proof about Google’s hidden agenda his 3 step SEO solution his first step to combat this was to find out which keywords are making his money.
Then he tells you to find out what they are and start tracking them in Google Analytic’s. WHAT!!
Just what type of advice is that. Considering the point he is making isn’t he shooting himself in the foot.
I know this was just a lead into the new tracking software they are promoting, but honestly. If you want to combat Google or at least want to try to have a chance with Google DON’T GIVE YOUR OPPONENT YOUR PLAY BOOK!
I wonder sometimes what is in the head of some marketers and their software telling you Google is evil and you dive right into their hands for them to observe where the money is so they can edge you out of the rankings sooner or later with some animal update.
They may have great tools but the reasoning and execution makes no sense leading you into the lions den.
On a similar note the Google Keyword Tool as we know it is going away. Much of the software that depends on search counts for reporting more than likely will be broken. Causing many people to start looking for alternatives.
This fascination for making business decisions based on suspect search counts has always made me wonder why.
I know all the arguments about doing all that work making web pages and having no one visit the site based on low search counts etc…
What I say to that is keep looking at those numbers while myself and many of the top marketers who agree with me are looking at more reliable indicators of profit making keywords.
My most profitable keywords have always been keywords with very low search volumes.
I have ranked high for many many high search volume keywords with almost non existent sales or even visitors. I have discussed this with many very experienced marketers who have the same experience. Search volumes is not indication of how many visitors or potential sales you will get.
So if your hung up on this parameter for choosing keywords and your not succeeding you need to look again on your plan for success.
Here is a quick observation about keywords in general
Broad keywords
•High search volume
•Difficult to rank for
•Low Buyers intention (very low)
Long tail keywords
•Lower search volume
•Easier to rank for
•Higher buyers intent
Buying keywords
•Lowest search volume
•Easiest to rank for
•Highest buying intent
The common denominator is the lower search volume keywords are generally better for buying intent.
So if you have people show up you have a better chance of making a sale than with higher search volumes.
